Man Pleads Guilty for Sexually Assaulting a Horse

May 14, 2025 – Salisbury, Wiltshire, USA.

Damion Ogeare, 43, admitted offences at Salisbury Crown Court in connection with an incident where a Shetland pony was involved at a Trowbridge, Wiltshire farm. The case has been ongoing since last January and has generated interest locally due to the nature of the allegations.

Ogeare was in court today, where he pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual penetration of a living animal under the Sexual Offences Act. He also pleaded guilty to trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence. The charges were from an incident on January 24 last year at a farm in Trowbridge.

According to court comments, Ogeare was spotted on Maylands Farm land on the aforementioned date. He was reported to then enter a stable which was approximately 100 yards away from the main farm house. There were two Shetland ponies inside the stable, one of which was a mare named Cassieopia Wooley. The prosecution alleges that Ogeare had intercourse with the pony and then departed the location approximately ten minutes later.

The assault was uncovered when the farm owner, viewing videotape, observed an individual enter the stable. Authorities were notified immediately, and an investigation was launched. Police authorities were able to identify Ogeare as the suspect, and DNA evidence is reported to have linked him to the crime.

Ogeare was eventually arrested and accused of the listed offenses. Ogeare sought an adjournment when he first appeared before a court of law so he could seek legal counsel to advice him on prospective legal aid, but today, he pleaded guilty to both indictments.

The case has generated controversy among locals, and animal welfare groups have raised concerns for the pony’s well-being. The case also raises questions of farm security and how easy it is for such crimes to be committed against vulnerable animals.

Once Ogeare had pleaded guilty, the court ordered him to be released on bail pending the preparation of a pre-sentence report. The pre-sentence report will provide the court with a full picture of Ogeare’s background, his state of mind, potential risk factors, and any mitigating factors that can be considered when sentencing.

The pre-sentence report will play a key role in guiding the judge’s determination of the appropriate punishment. Sentencing options range as wide as community service and probation on one end of the spectrum to incarceration, depending on the severity of the offense and the unique facts of the case.

Sentencing will be heard at a future date after the court completes and reads the pre-sentence report. The sentencing hearing will also provide the opportunity for the prosecution and defense to submit as to what appropriate sentence is.

This case serves to remind us of concern for animal welfare and of the care that is needed to prevent vulnerable animals from falling victim to abuse. It also refers to the duty of the police to investigate and prosecute these offenses. GistNexus will continue to follow this case and report on developments as they are made available. The sentencing hearing is expected to be a significant event because the court will weigh the seriousness of the offense, the injury inflicted on the victim, and the need to deter future offenses of this kind.
