Police is Appealing to the General Public in Locating the Family of Two Children Taken from Taraba and Abandoned in Nasarawa.

March 14, 2024 – Nasarawa, Nigeria.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has been left in a desperate call on the public to assist in identifying and reuniting two little girls who were abandoned near Mararaba Junction in the Karu Local Government Area. The two girls, Fatima Isah (10) and her sister Halima Isah (8), were spotted roaming by a member of the public on March 12, 2025, which prompted a swift response from the police.

In a release made available by the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, the girls were rescued around 5:00 p.m. in Ungwan Gwandara, Mararaba. The news was promptly communicated to police operatives, who promptly evacuated the children and brought them to the Mararaba ‘B’ Division for further care and protection.

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, also made an appeal to the public to offer any information that could be used in tracing the children’s families or informing the police on the reasons why they were abducted and dumped in the bushes. In the public statement, Nansel noted that the information given by the public would be under utmost secrecy.

We would call on whoever has information on the children, their parents or on the circumstances of being left behind, to report them immediately,” said Nansel.

For others who may have such information, police have made the following contacts available in case they are willing to come forward:

– Divisional Police Officer, Mararaba ‘B’ Division – 08037005201

– Divisional Crime Officer – 07034260434

– Police Public Relations Officer – 08037461715

The police are operating day and night to trace the Isah sisters’ family members and establish how they were transported from Jalingo to Mararaba, and to determine if there are any connections to criminality. While the children are safe at the station, the police want to reunite them with their loved ones.

Further, the police chief has again expressed its commitment to ensuring the well-being of all citizens, especially vulnerable children, and is focusing on action towards ensuring that such events don’t recur in the future.

Isah sisters’ drama has awakened shared fear among dwellers of Nasarawa and placed the case of child protection and security in the public domain for debate. To the best of inquiry, reports have been solicited by police from anyone who might have seen the girls or observed anything unusual regarding how they were dropped off.

“Every lead is significant in the process of rehabilitating these children back to their family, and bringing the masterminds of this gruesome event to justice,” SP Nansel stated.

So far, the girls continue to be in protective custody and their health is closely monitored. Nasarawa State Police Command appreciated the public for ongoing support and cooperation in the matter and assured the public that all efforts would be made towards ensuring a speedy closure.
